A ABOUT THIS EVENT

BUILDING A RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM FOR A HEALTHY NIGERIA

The Nigeria National Council on Health (NCH) is a high-level governance body responsible for the formulation, coordination, and implementation of health policies and programs in Nigeria. It is a vital institution in Nigeria's healthcare landscape. It serves as a platform for collaboration and decision-making among stakeholders in the healthcare sector, bringing together key players from the federal and state levels of government, as well as development partners, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.

NCH is chaired by the Honourable Minister of Health and includes the Commissioners of Health from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The council meets regularly to discuss and address critical health issues, review progress, and make decisions that influence the direction of healthcare in the country.

The NCH has several core functions:

  1. Policy Formulation: NCH is responsible for developing and reviewing national health policies and strategies, ensuring they align with Nigeria's healthcare goals and priorities.
  2. Resource Allocation: It plays a crucial role in allocating resources for health programs, ensuring that funds are distributed effectively and equitably.
  3. Coordination: NCH coordinates the activities of various stakeholders to promote synergy and
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: The council oversees the implementation of health programmes, assesses their impact, and makes recommendations for improvements.
  5. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement: NCH engages with relevant partners and stakeholders to garner support and commitment to health initiatives.
  6. Capacity Building: It fosters the development of healthcare professionals and the improvement of healthcare infrastructure across the country.

The NCH is advised by the Technical Committee, which comprises various stakeholders from both governmental and non-governmental sectors. The Technical Committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, consists of directors, legal advisors, and representatives from state health departments, the armed forces, prisons medical services, parastatals, health regulatory agencies, teaching and specialist hospitals, registered health professional associations, traditional medicine practitioners, and private healthcare providers.

This NCH is the 64th Meeting and is holding in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
